FOODBANK FEEDBACK  Last week they processed 15 vouchers. It was a busy time with a lot of asylum seekers from Syria, Sudan and Eritrea referred by Assist (mentioned by Phil in his talk a couple of weeks ago).  It was not easy with language difficulties but they got there in the end.  A collection at Tesco on Saturday brought in another 337kg and St Paul’s contributed 31kg.  They had a cookery club which made delicious apple crumble and Robert was able to ‘help’ eat it – and had three helpings!

MORE FOODBANK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED  Please see Murray if you could help with any of these:  Wednesdays 9am-12.30pm ish Using your car to pick up food from a couple of different sources and unloading it back at the church (costs would be covered).  Prepping food for cooking (general chopping, no major skills needed!). Cooking the meal (either in a helper role or leading role).  Looking at recipes we can use with the food we get in.  Wednesdays 12 - 3.30pm ish Serving food.  Chatting with people.  Phone: We're looking for one or two people who could receive calls and respond to Foodbank answer messages for a designated slot each week, this could be done from your own home or mobile and won't cost you.  Friday volunteers: We're looking for one or two people who could come and volunteer at Foodbank sessions on Fridays 12-3pm weekly or fortnightly. Work could be upstairs with people or downstairs packing food.

FROM MURRAY Ann and I had a wonderful extra day off last week meeting up with our friend Steve and his wife Jo in Ely (not too far from their house in Norwich where they are staying for their holiday in the UK).  It was a glorious day and after a pub lunch by the river we went to the cathedral and up the tower – Steve has a passion for such places!  The views were glorious!  Steve is struggling a bit with having to find a new job but is generally OK.

Season Of Invitation

The next invitation services are Back to Church Sunday at 10 am on 28th September and the Memorial Service at 6.00 pm that evening. What are your thoughts about who you might invite and what you might invite them to?  It is no easy challenge but a vital one if we are to step forward from being a welcoming church to an inviting church.  Did God put into your mind someone to invite?  What did you sense you should be inviting them to?  (Remember it may start with an invitation to coffee or a meal, a pint or a game of snooker!)

Mission Partnerships

This week I had the first meeting of the clergy of the four churches of our Mission Partnership in a café on Woodseats (where I enjoyed a very good piece of gluten free cake!).  It was good to talk over the sort of things which are happening in our churches and to begin to build relationships.  Something I did not know about is that there is a youth group which meets at Woodseats Baptist Church which is supported by St Peter’s Greenhill, St Chad’s Woodseats and Holmhirst Road Methodist Church.  This is the sort of thing that is better done together!  The clergy will meet again in the New Year and draw in other members of our churches so that we can begin to think and pray about how we might work together as a Mission Partnership.

ST PAUL’S AUTUMN MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held in church on Sunday 28th September at 6.00 pm. If anyone wants names including please let Murray have them in writing please.
