From Murray

What a wonderful weekend!  As I write I am remembering last year’s Christmas Tree Festival and all the people it drew to St Paul’s.  Connecting the festival with our church anniversary, this year, is a great addition and I am so pleased that we have Bishop Steven coming to St Paul’s to mark the occasion.

As early as 1873 the process of creating the Parish of Norton Lees out of the huge ancient Parish of Norton was begun.   By May the next year an Order in Council formally created the new parish.  St Paul’s was built and finally consecrated by the Bishop of Lichfield (the Diocese it was then in) on 23rd November 1877.

So much has changed in 136 years!  In the early 1930’s the roof had to be replaced when the side aisles were created.  In the 1960’s the first pipe organ was replaced with the huge instrument which stood at the back of church until our reordering eight years ago.  St Paul’s is a dynamic place which has changed and evolved to meet the new challenges we are presented with.  As we celebrate 136 years let’s look forward to all the things God has for us in the future.

Bon Voyage Pepps! (Peppa, Becky or even Rebekah to give you your full name)

Today is the last Sunday Pepps will be with us before she joins the Navy, so we do wish her well as she starts her new career.  I know that she has wanted to do this for some years, and has hung on through many disappointments; but now she has passed all the tests and will be beginning her training very soon.

Thank you Pepps for your encouragement and for your ministry in the Worship Group in these last years.  We will miss you, but look forward to seeing you again at Christmas.

From Murray It was great to share in the Remembrance Services last week.  At our 10 am service Jack Andrew took part at 94 - he served in the war as a tank driver.  Rebekah also took part before joining the Navy this month.  I was also very moved that Tamara who grew up in Germany was also worshipping with us.  I was warmly welcomed to Tamara and Errol’s daughter Mia’s baptism party many years ago.  It is good to have Mia with us now, much more grown up, and taking part in Seekers.
